Caste creed and colour.....!

Caste, creed and colour.....these are some issues with which we are dividing our society in the name of our so called social setup. I am not saying we have to change our culture but can’t we move forward from that social setup and unite for a change, to build a new equal and different society in which caste, creed or colour has no importance? Why do we always distance our own brethren with these issues? Categorising humanity is not meaningful wisdom. We can live as human creatures and should not be dependent on the social setup of those years which mostly play as divider between us. Sometimes we are keen of knowing each other’s belief, sometimes caste and even sometimes region to which we belong. Is this the way how we should introduce ourselves to each other? We will not get anyone from heaven, who will teach us what the importance of human being is. Just to make you understand I can say, whether human being is professionally sweeper or doctor, both should have same status in the society. If doctor will expel sweeper from the society then doctor himself has to clean roads and drainage. We are so much involved in capitalism structure that we have forgot humanity, we have killed our hearts for the sake of erecting buildings on the money of poor people and dump the corporate shit into the water bodies of our valley. Let’s see the world as the bowl of humans not as Hindus, Muslims, Dalit’s and priests. A poor sweeper or beggar is same as the person from the so called elite class heading any large corporate enterprise. How can we distinguish a human being from other human being, it’s not justified in my sense. Its inhumane kind of act which we always perform by pasting tag of social norms of ancestors. Why can’t we be ancestors for our future generations, why can’t we build an equal and different society for our future generations?

Caste issue always comes in forefront when one person jailed in capitalism setup has to marry off his son or daughter. Families with so called upper class caste do not compromise to marry their children in lower class caste families. I want to know, who made this lower and upper class castes? Who has written this literature of division among us, had we forgot we all are human beings? But it’s we who are promoting these norms for our personal materialistic reasons. We have made feelings like love, marriage and friendship as capitalism franchises to maintain our so called status in the society. We sell love for money, marriage for castes and family status, and much more to which we all are well aware. Even religion of Islam also says there should be no inequality between the humans, all are humans and we should not differentiate them with castes. If there would have been upper and lower class castes then our ancestors in the Prophet’s period should never have married slaves. Slaves were used to be from so called lower class castes. At times when anyone wants to marry a person belonging to so called lower class caste but his or her family suppress their sentiments and give importance to their own build social setup. And remain least bothered about the wishes of their children, especially of the girl child. Most of the women are married forcibly to person against their wishes and afterwards neither she remains happy nor does she give that person place which he deserves in her life. But then in the long run she compromises with the situation. That compromise gives birth to mutely tolerated domestic violence and household hatred within the families.

When these so called upper class caste families were out to marry off their children, they not only look for family status but apart from that they look for what position does the person possess in the society whom to which their children is going to marry. We also take keen interest in the family’s earning capacity, house infrastructure; even we enquire the far off relatives also. Some of the families are even reluctant to marry their children to an orphan girl, thinking what she could manage to receive from her family when she has lost her parents. Many males prefer a working lady for marriage over a home based lady, that’s the cause of late marriages in our society. Many such cases add numbers to the suicide cases in the valley. Women are always suppressed at every juncture whether its home, her husband’s home, or at work, everywhere we can see how women are at receiving end.

We have turned our life to ‘Eat, drink and be merry’ philosophy which can lead us to worst of ever we can have in our society. If we will always prefer merry then whom we are waiting for to reform the social structure. It’s pertinent to mention here that in September 1932, when M K Gandhi was in jail, he undertook a “fast unto death” to improve the status of the Hindu Untouchables. The British, by permitting the Untouchables to be considered as a separate part of the Indian electorate, were, according to Gandhi, countenancing an injustice. Although Gandhi was himself a member of the Vaisya (merchant) caste, Gandhi was the great leader of the movement in India dedicated to eradicating the unjust social and economic aspects of the caste system.

We have to shoulder this responsibility of changing society on our shoulders; we can’t hide ourselves from this duty. How can we compromise with the future of our future generations, what we are going to leave for them, communal violence, casteism, capitalism...what it is, we have to decide it now? We are answerable to them; they will pose questions to us. We can’t leave casteism, communal and therefore hate ridden society for our future generations. Let’s wake up from the slumber and stand on our foot to take this challenge of reformation. The Revolution should be within our hearts, it should not be gifted from the old social norms.
